What Remains

The Story Exhibition

Five stories. Five objects. Five ways memory survives.

A vast old Ahmedabad mill hall. Lengths of indigo cloth hang from the roof, fading from deep blue to white. On the far wall, under a denim panel reading What Remains, The Story Exhibition, five framed stories hang under small lights. A still water channel reflects them, and in the water rise the words What remains, in English, Gujarati and Hindi.

Walk along the wall: swipe, then tap a story to enter.

New to the exhibition? Begin with The Extra Plate. It takes about four minutes.

Some things survive because we preserve them. Others survive because they continue to live quietly inside ordinary objects.

What Remains brings together five stories in which a plate, a brass vessel, a letter, a doorframe and a spoon become witnesses to peace, attention, human presence, continuity and belonging.

This is not an exhibition of objects. It is an exhibition of what human lives leave inside them.

Choose a story to begin. There is no required order. Read slowly. Let one story stay with you before you enter another.

If this exhibition means something to you, you may place it in someone else’s hands, or add your name to the readers who chose to stand beside it.
